Growing Media

01 Planting

Try to plant during a warm, dry spell. Soil must be warm-if it is not warm enough, seeds will rot

02 Soil

Avoid planting in soil that stays consistently damp or wet. Beans typically need warm soil of 65° or higher. Grows best in full sun. Regular harvesting of the young pods will ensure a greater yield.

03 Maturity

55- days for green snap beans. 85-90 days for dry beans.

Care

01 WATER

Low water requirements at planting-moisten soil for germination, medium at flowering, and then heavy through harvest.

02 Harvesting

Harvest fresh snap beans when they are tender and sweet, about 4-7 inches long. Check bean plants every few days, green beans grow quickly. Picking your beans encourages more flowering, which increases bean production.

03 Days to Maturity

55- days for green snap beans. 85-90 days for dry beans. Watering: Low water requirements at planting-moisten soil for germination, medium at flowering, and then heavy through harvest.

04 cutting

When your bean plants have withered, don’t pull up the entire plant! Cut the plant at soil level and leave the roots in the ground to fertilize the soil for next season.

05 store

Fresh beans last 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator. Painted Pony bush beans can be eaten fresh or left on the plant until the beans are light brown and dry to be harvested as dried beans.
